Matthew J. McHugh has published his campaign web site to the internet at www.matthewmchugh.net .  The site is designed to highlight Matt’s   background, personal information and his position on the issues effecting South County and Rhode Island.  “The internet is an excellent tool for me to inform the voters of South County of my stance on issues and my experience,” said McHugh.  “Unlike our current State Representative, if elected, I will use the internet, email and my web site as one of the ways  to communicate with the people of in my District,” added McHugh.  He is running for State Representative in District 36, the office he held from 2002 until 2006.  District 36 includes the Towns of South Kingstown, Charlestown, Westerly and New Shoreham.

 McHugh, a lifelong Democratic, earlier this year disaffiliated from the Rhode Island Democratic Party.  He will run as an Independent candidate.

“Respectful and open dialogue is essential to good government.” said McHugh.    “Using the internet to communicate is just one more means  to bring good government to the people efficiently and effectively.”

Matthew McHugh, age 63, of 91 Seabreeze Terrace South Kingstown, RI was a Senior Vice president and financial advisor with wallstreet investment firms during his 33 year career.  In addition to his investment work, he also works with his wife, Kim, who is a real estate sales professional with Randall Realtors, GMAC in Charlestown.  His wife is the President of the General Federated Women’s Club of South County, a volunteer organization dedicated to community service. They have two daughters: Emily, an art teacher in Burlington, VT and Amy a Spa manager in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

 He is a graduate of Cranston High School East (1963) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings, Point New York (1967).  He holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Rutgers University (1970).  He served in the Merchant Marine during the Vietnam conflict and was a lieutenant officer in the US Navy Reserve.
