In a recent story published by the Westerly Sun concerning the resignation of Charlestown Councilman John Craig, they quote Councilman James Mageau about the Charlestown Citizens Alliance (CCA). Mr. Mageau claims that the majority of members of CCA are Republicans.  Once again Mr. Mageau issues misstatements and opinions to the press that he has no knowledge of and have no basis in fact.  Not only is the President of CCA a registered Democrat but the majority of its steering committee and members are comprised of Democrats and Independents.  CCA doesn’t care what political party you register with, what CCA cares about is the type of candidate that is elected to political office.  CCA supports the type of candidate who has the character, ethics, leadership qualities, and commitment to excellence in public service that can help restore good government to Charlestown.  Unfortunately for Charlestown, we don’t have current Democrats on the Council who have those qualities.  But one thing Charlestown has are  a number of concerned citizens who do have those qualities and who will be running for Town Council and other public offices in November. Those are the candidates CCA will support and those are the people who will restore citizen confidence and professionalism to the Charlestown Town Council.
