Mission of CCA
CCA is a ballot advocacy organization that identifies and addresses significant public policy issues affecting the quality of life in Charlestown. CCA also acts as a watch dog organization that monitors the activities and public policy recommendations and decisions of the Town Council, Town Administrator and Town Commissions.
In 2008, CCA expanded its role to become a Political Action Committee. In order to endorse and support candidates for elected office, Rhode Island law requires that we register as a PAC. We are not affiliated with any one political party. We have and will continue to support those candidates, regardless of political affiliation or party, who best represent the citizens' vision for Charlestown. CCA has a strong political voice, but we remain non-partisan.
CCA supports:
- open, professional and ethical government that is transparent
- preservation of our natural resources (drinking water, Salt Ponds, freshwater ponds, etc.)
- responsible development that does not negatively impact our natural resources, quality of life and infrastructure
- opposition to a casino of any kind in Charlestown
- fiscal responsibility
Objectives
CCA will play an active role in monitoring public policy decisions and all commission, committee, and executive appointments to ensure that no conflicts of interests by elected officials occur in the appointment of any town officials, contractor, or appointed commission and committee members.
Membership
CCA has not yet established a procedure for official membership. We do not yet have dues paying members or defined member benefits. Once we have an official procedure to join CCA, we will still keep our e-mail list free and open to everyone. Inclusion in the e-mail list requires no financial contributions and is open to any Charlestown resident or property owner who wants to be on the e-mail list and wants access to information and updates on CCA activities, news reports, newsletters, and in-depth background information on Political Candidates.
Organization
CCA is governed by four officers and a Steering Committee which meets at least monthly. None of the Committee members or officers receive any form of compensation--this is strictly a volunteer effort.
